Meet Jarrett Lofthus
Vice President, Information Technology
At Berkley Human Services, our commitment to the human services market is supported by more than underwriting expertise alone. Behind the scenes, our technology systems, data platforms, cybersecurity practices, and operational support help our teams work efficiently, respond consistently, and make informed decisions.
As Vice President of Information Technology, Jarrett Lofthus helps guide the technology strategy that supports BHS employees, distribution partners, agents, brokers, and insureds. His team works across infrastructure, applications, security, data, and user support to help ensure our business teams have reliable access to the tools and information they need every day.
In this Q&A, Jarrett Lofthus shares how BHS Information Technology supports service, strengthens collaboration, and enables practical, scalable solutions aligned with the needs of the business.
Driving efficiency, reliability, and secure access
Q: What is your role, and what does your team do day to day?
A: As Vice President of Information Technology, I'm responsible for the technology strategy, systems, cybersecurity, data platforms, and operational support that enable our business to serve clients and distribution partners effectively. My team works across infrastructure, applications, security, data, and user support to ensure our employees have reliable tools and information to make informed decisions every day.
Q: How does your team support clients, partners, and distribution?
A: While we don't interact directly with clients or producers every day, we support the technology platforms that power those relationships. Our focus is providing secure, reliable, and efficient systems that help our underwriting, claims, and service teams respond quickly, communicate effectively, and deliver a consistent experience for agents and insureds.
Q: What problems does your team help solve most often?
A: We help solve challenges related to efficiency, reliability, and secure access to information. Whether it's improving business processes, automating steps in our processes, modernizing systems, or providing data that supports better decision-making, our goal is to remove obstacles so our business teams can focus on serving clients and distribution partners.
Aligning technology decisions with business success
Q: How do you approach decision-making in complex or high-stakes situations?
A: I start by understanding the business objective, gathering input from the right stakeholders, and evaluating both short-term and long-term impacts. In high-stakes situations, it's important to balance speed with discipline, rely on facts and data, and maintain clear communication throughout the decision-making process.
Q: What guides your judgment when balancing risk, service, and growth?
A: Technology decisions need to drive business outcomes while protecting the organization. I look for solutions that improve service and create opportunities for growth without compromising security, stability, or regulatory responsibilities. The best decisions are usually those that create sustainable value long-term rather than short-term gains.
Q: How do cross-functional teams contribute to stronger outcomes?
A: The strongest solutions come from collaboration. Business leaders, operational teams, and technology professionals each bring unique perspectives. When teams work together, we can better understand challenges, identify opportunities, and implement solutions that are practical, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
Creating a better experience for clients and distribution partners
Q: What does your approach mean for the people Berkley Human Services serves?
A: Our approach helps create a more responsive, reliable, and consistent experience. By investing in technology, processes, and data-driven decision-making, we enable our teams to focus more time on serving clients and supporting distribution partners.
Q: How does your leadership influence the client or producer experience and what should partners expect when working with your team?
A: Technology is very often behind the scenes but can have a direct impact on the overall experience people receive. My focus is creating an environment where employees have the tools, information, and support they need to provide timely service, make informed decisions, and build strong relationships with agents and clients.
Q: What should partners expect when working with your team?
A: Partners can expect a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach. We have decades of insurance experience and focus on understanding the business needs, open communication, and delivering reliable technology solutions that support operational excellence and long-term success.
Specialized expertise, stronger outcomes
Q: What differentiates Berkley Human Services’ approach or expertise in the market?
A: What differentiates Berkley Human Services is the combination of specialized expertise, disciplined underwriting, and a strong service culture. We pair deep industry knowledge with technology and data-driven insights that help us operate efficiently, respond quickly, and make informed decisions.
Q: Why does specialization matter in this segment of the business?
A: Organizations in the human services sector face unique operational and risk-management challenges. At Berkley Human Services, we insure those who serve others, and specialization gives us a deeper understanding of the environments in which our customers operate. That knowledge allows us to assess risk more effectively, provide meaningful guidance, and build stronger relationships with the organizations we serve.
Q: How does your team remain aligned as the business evolves?
A: Alignment starts with understanding business priorities. We maintain close partnerships with leaders across the organization, regularly evaluate changing needs, and focus our technology investments on initiatives that support strategic goals. By staying connected to the business, we can quickly adapt while ensuring technology remains a trusted enabler of growth and service.
