Turning financial insight into better outcomes
Q: What is your role, and how does your team support clients, partners, and distribution?
A: As Chief Financial Officer, I lead the Finance function for the Human Services business. My team oversees core financial disciplines—reporting, planning and analysis, controls, billing support, and operational finance—while partnering closely with underwriting, claims, and operations to support sound, timely decision making. Beyond the technical work, our role is to bring clarity by translating financial insight into practical guidance, helping teams move confidently as they assess opportunities, respond to emerging risk, and navigate change.
The discipline behind every decision
Q: How do you approach decision-making in complex or high-stakes situations?
A: In complex or high-stakes situations, my approach starts with grounding decisions in facts, context, and perspective. I believe strongly in understanding both the data and the “why” behind it—what’s driving the result, where uncertainty exists, and what the downstream implications may be.
Q: What guides your judgment when balancing risk, service, and growth?
A: When balancing risk, service, and growth, judgment is guided by Berkley’s culture of disciplined underwriting and long term thinking. The goal isn’t simply to avoid risk, but to take the right risks—thoughtfully, transparently, and with a clear understanding of how they support our clients and the franchise over time.
Q: How do cross-functional teams contribute to stronger outcomes?
A: Cross functional collaboration is critical to achieving strong outcomes. The best decisions rarely sit within a single function. By bringing together underwriting, claims, operations, and finance, we are able to challenge assumptions, surface blind spots, and arrive at solutions that are both technically sound and operationally practical.
Delivering confidence through consistency
Q: What does your approach mean for the people Berkley Human Services serves?
A: For clients and producers, our approach translates into consistency, reliability, and confidence. Financial discipline behind the scenes allows teams to focus on delivering responsive service and long term partnership.
Q: How does your leadership influence the client or producer experience and what should partners expect when working with your team?
A: From a leadership standpoint, my goal is to create alignment across the organization so interactions feel coordinated and intentional. Partners can expect transparency, responsiveness, and a collaborative mindset when working with my team.
Built on expertise, guided by discipline
Q: What differentiates Berkley Human Services’ approach or expertise in the market?
A: What differentiates our approach in the market is a deep respect for specialization. Human Services risks are complex and nuanced, and they require expertise that goes beyond generalist solutions. Our model allows teams to develop deep knowledge of the segment, supported by financial insight that reinforces disciplined decision making.
Q: Why does specialization matter in this segment of the business?
A: Specialization matters because it enables better judgment—both in understanding risk and in supporting clients through challenging situations. Financial leadership plays a key role by aligning capital, strategy, and operational execution in a way that supports that expertise.
Q: How does your team remain aligned as the business evolves?
A: As the business evolves, alignment comes from clear ownership, strong communication, and shared values. We remain disciplined in how we grow, intentional about how we adapt, and focused on maintaining consistency even as the environment changes.
